About the Course

A 3 day course leading to a Level 2 Award for Working as a Close Protection Operative in the Private Security Industry (Top Up) qualification.

From the 1st of October 2022 any Close Protection Operative holding an SIA CP Licence must now undergo this new qualification before they can apply for their current licence to be renewed.


If a learner has a valid FAW, FREC, FPOS or Equivalent and with a minimum of 12 months validation remaining, then the course will be 3days.

If you require the FAW qualification prior to the course, there will be an additional cost of £120 and a further 2-days added to the course making it a 5-day course.


Mandator Units include:

  • Principles of Terror Threat Awareness.

  • Principles of working as a Door Supervisor for Close Protection Operatives.

  • Application of Physical Intervention Skills for Close Protection Operatives.

  • Application of Physical Intervention Skills in the Private Security Industry.

  • First Aid at Work (As a minimum).


Assessments involve the learner completing multi-choice examinations, a small questions and answer session, and practical assessments throughout the course.

There will also be a small amount of distance learning involved prior to the course commencing which includes a small workbook, an English assessment, both ACT - Action Counters Terrorism certificates, and a small amount of First Aid knowledge if required.

All elements of the course must be achieved by the learner to enable them to renew their Close Protection licence with the Security Industry Authority (SIA).

The First Aid element must be achieved prior to progressing onto the Close Protection element of the course.
